Oh, no, not that metaphor! But I do see it’s application in this case. I really do.
Brian Baird has learned the knack of ignoring the small local problems, which are often very difficult to resolve, and concentrating very publicly on the very big problems, which, actually, he is in no better position to handle than any other U.S. Representative.
It might actually be far easier to Take A Courageous Stand on the War then to address the convoluted problems of: Tribal Casinos in general and the Cowlitz Casino in particular; the I-5 Bridge; Tolls; the Clark County-To-Oregon Commuter; the Clark County-Oregon Tax Slave; and the problem of the Oregon State Income Tax both for Clark County as a whole and for the Clark County, WA residents who must pay that hideous tax for no benefits what-so-ever.
These really are federal issues that deeply affect Brian Baird’s constituents, and they do present truly unjust situations.
I don’t expect Brian Baird to solve these problems.
I just would feel a whole lot better if he’d honestly address them, if only to make an irate speech on the floor of Congress to inform the world at large, or at least the C-Span cameras, that we really are being treated in a most unjust way!
No, I don’t really expect Brian Baird to fix all of our special problems.
I just want him to get angry over the fact that we do have these problems.
And, I guess, I just want to know that Brian Baird loves us as much as he loves the world.
